Homily on the unforgiving servant.

today’s Gospel, our Lord and Saviour recounts the parable of the unforgiving servant. This parable reminds us that, in the Christian life, gratitude to God and to others must become part of our regular practice. We have all been given gifts to use in building Christ’s Kingdom on earth. As I have noted before, this is one of the beauties of our faith: we are all invited to take part in building the Kingdom of God.

Let us not be like the unforgiving servant who, after having his own debt forgiven, went and demanded payment from his fellow servant. We are all called to forgive those who have wronged us. Although it can be difficult to forget the hurt we have suffered, we must not allow resentment to rule our hearts.

It is also vital that we accept the forgiveness God offers us. He is our Father, who desires only what is best for us. Like the father in the parable of the prodigal son, He welcomes us into His forgiving embrace. We should not continually punish ourselves for the wrongs we have committed. Rather, we should recognise that we are truly loved and cared for by the All-Holy Trinity, who gives us everything we need to attain eternal life.

Moreover, we are called to place our complete trust in God, for He will grant us every grace we need when we turn to Him. Letting go and trusting can be difficult at times, but this is precisely what we are called to do.

This week, let us pray that we may surrender ourselves completely into the hands of the All-Holy Trinity and receive every good grace and blessing from above.
